ELSECAR Park has been honoured in the annual Barnsley in Bloom awards.

Local judges assessed it on criteria developed by the Royal Horticultural Society and it earned a gold award.

Judges said: “The bandstand sits like a crown in this richly planted park, which boasts not only a well maintained and planted decorated area but a natural landscape site with lake, walks and bird hide to provide plenty of wildlife.” 

In the awards, Cannon Hall also kept hold of its Silver Gilt award, with Barnsley Hospice also earning a silver.

The Limes Golf Course, Tankersley Manor, Oxspring Primary School, Darton Primary School, 
Wilthorpe Junior School, Greenwood Terrace Conservation Group and Ardsley Community Allotment all scooped silver awards.
