VOLUNTEERS are being recruited to sleep rough for one night in a Barnsley car park to raise awareness of homelessness.

Charity SAFE@LAST has run the Big Sleepout fundraising event for the last five years, and it has raised over £70,000.

A spokesman said: "The event helps to give participants an insight into what it could be like for the many thousands of young runaways who find themselves sleeping rough.

"Those taking part have to forgo all comforts for the night as they are only allowed basic items to keep warm such as a sleeping bag and cardboard box."

The event will take place on October 5 on the car park at The Core.

I can't see how ordinary people doing this will help the homeless. Maybe those in charge of housing should be made to do it then something may be done
