Coaches Needed To Meet Post-Olympic Demand
Tuesday October 2 2012
MORE coaches are needed across Barnsley to keep up with demand for athletics following a surge in interest after the Olympics.
The South Yorkshire Athletics Network (SYAN) has reported large increases in the number of people coming forward to take part in their local athletics club sessions but now needs more coaches.
Spokesman Steve Gaines said: “It’s fantastic to see just how much the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have inspired everyone in South Yorkshire, and many to get active and apply to join their local athletics club.
“The knock on effect of this is we need more coaches to meet this increase in demand. We are looking to recruit and train a group of budding new coaches and would like to encourage anyone inspired to become involved in coaching to get in touch.
“You may be a former athlete who has been motivated to put something back into the sport, or someone who has no previous involvement, but believes they could inspire and help the next generation of athletes.”
