VOLUNTEERS at Barnsley Hospital have been treated to an afternoon tea after clocking up more than 205 years of service.
More than 100 volunteers attended the celebration and 14 of them were given long service awards.
Dorothy Carter, chaplaincy volunteer, has volunteered at the hospital for 30 years - since her first day in January 1982 she has volunteered in a variety of roles and was the first person to volunteer in the chapel in the mid 1990s.
James Whitehead, voluntary services coordinator at Barnsley Hospital, said: "It is a small token of appreciation for the time the volunteers give each week to enhance the services provided to patients, across many areas of the hospital. - they really do make a positive difference”.
The volunteers work in a variety of roles like working on the hospital tea bars, helping in clinics, aiding patients and visitors to find their way around the hospital, taking the mobile library service out to wards and volunteering at Barnsley Hospital Broadcasting radio station.
