Witness Appeal After Barnsley Road Death

Monday September 12 2011

A 31-year-old Barnsley man has died after being struck by a car on Redbrook Road, Gawber at the weekend.

It is thought that at around 11.15pm on Saturday (September 10) the man was walking uphill into town carriageway when he was hit by a blue Ford Fiesta which was travelling along Redbrook Road towards Barugh Green.

The man, from Barnsley, sustained extensive internal injuries.

The 62-year-old man driving the car was also from Barnsley and was not reported to have been injured. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the man on Redbrook Road between 11pm and 11.10pm on Saturday, 10 September and from anyone who saw the collision itself to call South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020 quoting incident number 1533 of the 10 September.

Thanks for your comment - the police actually have made an arrest on this and we published the official police statement. Usually when they make a witness appeal, they already have witnesses but are looking for more. Hope this makes sense.
