Grant For Group To Help Stressed Locals

Tuesday September 18 2012

MORE than £65,000 has been awarded to a Barnsley project which helps young people deal with stressful situations.

Hope House in Barnsley has received £65,850 from the Big Lottery's Reaching Communities programme to run a series of courses to teach young people how to cope with things like exams, family breakdowns, bullying or job or money worries.

Sessions will include life coaching, motivation, interview practise, cognitive behaviour therapy and muscle relaxation techniques and will be run at different community venues.

Activity days will be held, including climbing, abseiling, canoeing, team building and archery, and young people will be encouraged to become mentors and support others in similar situations.

Sarah Davey, of Hope House Church said: “We are really excited to receive funding for our 'Stress Factor' project, which we believe will give young people the strategies they need to manage stress in a positive way and to live life to the full.

"Our project will also help parents and those who work with young people to feel more confident in supporting them with their stress issues.”
