HEARTLESS thieves have stolen a memorial plaque and light bulbs from a teenager's grave in Hoyland. 

Shannon Deakin, 16, died in December after a blood clot spread from her leg to her chest.

Her parents, Sue, 44 and Bryan, 59, take flowers up to her grave in Kirk Balk cemetery every week and said they were devastated to find three bulbs had been taken from candle lights at her graveside as well as a new memorial plaque they had laid the previous day.

Sue said: "We were devastated because we try and keep it beautiful because she's a special daughter to us and we like to know that she has got a bit of light on a night.

"That somebody has the audacity to take them, I can't imagine what they were thinking of.

"It's not going to mean anything to anybody else but to me and her dad we need to know that she has got a light on. It's bad enough that she is on her own as it is."

Shannon, who had two half brothers and a half sister, collapsed at her home after being sent home from Barnsley Hospital, hours after receiving tablets for an infection.

An inquest is due to take place in November.

my heart goes out to you and your family we have the same problem of these thieving scumbags taking from our grandsons final bed its heartbreaking for the family there should be more done to protect our loved ones and their belongings nothing is scared these days people used to have some respect not these days :(

What a disgrace to hear things like this still appen ,it time the police got there backsides of the car seats started walking to places like this and when they catch give them a BIG SHARP SHOCK and show them who they are hurting ,this sort ov thing has got to STOP now , my prayers are with u Sue Bryan and family xx

It's disgraceful,what is this world coming to. They should put security cameras up then they can catch heartless thieves like these that won't leave people to rest in peace !

Maybe one day someone could organise a fund raising event to raise money to get some CCTV cameras put up in the cemetry. I would be glad to help in any way that I could. lots of love to her family......thet shouldn't have to be going through this. xx

it dosnt surprise me one bit hoyland has become a dumping ground for the scum in barnsley the theifs will sell em for drugs most of the younger kids have no respect for themselves so why would they respect the dead ive lived at hoyland and cameras wont stop em these ppl should be birched at oakwell just before the match starts in front of all the suporters i would go watch it and pay for the privilege to see them suffer

While I write this I am crying, why because Shannons dignity and memory has been ABUSED!!!
Haven't her parents gone through enough hell losing their daughter, without being hurt any further???
I don't understand how anyone could do this!!!!!!!!!!!

i am sue`s sister, and would like to join sue and bryan in thanking you all for your support, shannon was our baby`s baby and we will never get over the loss of such a special girl, your support means such a lot to sue bryan and all the family, so a big thaks to all.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thoughts go out to her family wat a hart rensher that this girl was taken two soon and noow her family ar still sufferin now I always say there fingers should fall off. On any person that steels buut to take of a grav omg wat is the world come to thay would not like it if it was there daughter sister mother or gran so y the hel do thay do it r.I.p my ur famely be abe to fined the strenth x x x x
