Fire Crews Evacuate Workers In Industrial Blaze
Monday September 10 2012
AROUND 12 people were evacuated from an industrial estate in Barnsley when a blaze spread to oxygen, propane and acetelyne cylinders.
Firefighters evacuated the workers on the Claycliffe Road industrial estate at Barugh Green after the fire spread.
The fire was reported at 4.05pm on Thursday (Sept 6) and involved caravans, a forklift truck and an office outbuilding.
Fire crews worked to save the rest of the buildings and remained at the site overnight to cool the acetelyne cylinder with a water jet to ensure they didn't explode.
A spokesman said: "The outbuilding and vehicles which were initially involved in the fire were destroyed.
"An investigation into the cause of the fire will begin."
