A BARNSLEY company has stepped in to donate gardening equipment to a group of teenagers who volunteered their school holidays to clean up the town.

Naylors at Cawthorne donated donated spades, forks, some gloves and a wheelbarrow to help a group who were clearing up Phoenix Park.

The teenagers, from across Barnsley, had volunteered to do the work as part of the National Citizen Service scheme - run through Barnsley Football Club - that the 16-year-olds to do 30 hours of voluntary work to help their local community.

But because everything is voluntary, they had no equipment. Voluntary Action Barnsley stepped in to ask their contacts to help.

A spokesman said: "Following on from your article on WAB our Business Liaison Manager Martin got in touch with Naylors at Cawthorne and got some equipment for the young people at Phoenix Park.

"We were really pleased and so were the young people, even if it was tipping it down yesterday on site."
