Plans Submitted To Renovate Hoyland Lowe Stand

A PLANNING application to renovate the historic Hoyland Lowe Stand has been submitted to Barnsley Council.

The Hoyland Lowe Stand Trust plans to renovate the tower and observation plateau and insert a first floor level.

It is thought the work will cost around £20,000 and the group of locals have been raising the cash to pay for it.

The trust have held various fund-raising events, including a joint community gala at Hoyland Common Primary School.

They have also been selling 2013 calendars which depict different scenes of the areas mining heritage with images supplied by local historian Michael Bedford.

Great stuff - I will be really happy to see this renovated - The Hoyland Lowe Stand Group have been working hard for this and I take my hat off to everyone of them - giving their time up nearly every weekend in sun, cold, rain, snow, etc. Well Done to all of them and please please people of Hoyland, Hoyland Common, Platts Common, Birdwell - In fact all of Barnsley - come on help these guys out and donate some cash to preserve this historic monument for the future and our children. I live over t'other side of Pennines now but I am from Hoyland Common and if I can help out and donate you local lot can!!!!

We wish them loads of luck - it's a long hard struggle raising funds for heritage projects and the Hoyland Lowe Stand Trust has done brilliantly. Can't wait to see the results of their efforts - staff & volunteers at Wentworth Castle Trust.

Great news. My mother lived there with her family They are shown on the 1911 census
