What Do You Think Would Deter Shoplifters?

Tuesday August 21 2012

We Are Barnsley has been following with interest the crackdown on shoplifting in Barnsley.

We carried a story that prompted a spectucular response from locals last week - it can be found here if you missed it.

Inspector Julie Mitchell - who is heading up the crackdown - tweeted last week that shoplifting in a Manchester shop dropped by 75 per cent...just because they used a cardboard cut out of a police officer.

What do you think can realistically be done to crackdown on shoplifting and retail crime? And how big a problem do you think it is in Barnsley?

Bring back the Stocks. Shoplifters to be shamed & shackled in the town centre for a bit of rotten veg throwing.

paint their faces blue with an ink that stains for at least two weeks and if they are repeat offenders do it repeatedly

The BIRCH. We have NO deterrent, no suitable law system that fits the bill and we are awash with REPEAT OFFENDERS. When will this MADNESS stop and when will we get a punishment that stops them from re-offending. Harsh, NO, try looking at the victims point of view for a change!
