Memorial For Market Worker Who Collapsed And Died
Thursday August 16 2012
MORE than £300 has been raised for a memorial to a market worker who collapsed and died on Wombwell High Street.
Cleaner and rent collector Alan Moreton, 67, of Upperwood Road, Darfield, collapsed on the pavement near the public toilets at about 11am last Friday after complaining of shortness of breath.
Staff trained in first aid from Potter's butchers attempted to resuscitate him before paramedics arrived but he died of a heart attack.
High Street Committee chairman Andy Cole, of Cole Bros Café, began collecting money this week for Alan to be remembered with a plaque on the High Street. He said anyone wishing to make a donation should do so at the café.
