Friday August 3 2012
SOME last minute cash grants are available to people wanting to host Olympic inspired events in Barnsley.
The Community Games Programme gives people the chance to apply for some cash from the £2 million Big Society Fund, funded by the government.
Only one project has been arranged for Barnsley so far, a sports event at Shaw Lane Community Sports Association on August 26 that will feature five-a-side football, tug-of-war, athletics, sack races, aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage and Henna.
Grants worth up to £500 are available to fund events and applications are open until August 10 with events taking place before the end of September.
A spokesman said: “The Community Games programme is about giving work colleagues, schools, societies, faith groups and neighbours an opportunity to join forces, bringing communities together and celebrating the Olympics while encouraging people to participate in sports and cultural activities.”
Anyone interested in applying, should go here.
