Masons To Go For Housing

PLANNERS have given the go ahead for houses to be built on the site of a Staincross pub.

Mason Building Contractors Ltd have been given permission develop the Masons Arms pub, on New Road.

A block of three town houses put on the site.

The pub was put up for sale on a freehold basis by owner Admiral Taverns with a guide price of £180,000, but failed to attract new owners.

HAs this just been annpunced, I only ask as the pub has pretty much already been demolished, if so it sounds like the developer had insider information begining work on a development before it had been approved?

Hi Guesty - it's usual practice for developers to get told the decision first. They do pay for a planning application to be considered so it's a service like any other. This decision was reached a couple of weeks ago - but it relies on us looking on the planning explorer site to see what's going on. Nothing underhand.

cheers Nicky, you learn something everyday. Couple of weeks is when they started, not hanging about. wonder what they'll do with the lovely old stone from the front of the building. Another part of old Mapplewell/Staincross destined to disapear without a trace.

The stone was given to and sold on by the demolition team as means of payment for clearing the site ...
