Vandals Cause Thousands Of Pounds Damage To Park

Wednesday August 1 2012

VANDALS who carried a sofa to Wombwell Park and set it on fire have caused thousands of pounds of damage.

The fire, on Monday, has caused £2,500 of damage to swings and the safety surface. Just a few weeks ago, a £3,500 stainless steel slide from the same playground was stolen.

A council spokesman said: "We can’t understand why someone would try to undo all the hard work by recklessly damaging the place. There are unprecedented and well-publicised pressures on council budgets, and it simply isn’t possible to continually replace damaged and stolen equipment.”

Brian Whittaker of the Friends of Wombwell Park, said: “We have a lot of plans for the park and will continue to volunteer and fund raise to make sure it continues to be a great place for families to visit. Sadly, mindless acts like this do make you start to ask if it’s all worth the effort.”

Anyone who has any information about the fire or the theft of the slide should contact South Yorkshire Police by calling 101.

There seems to be a growing band of marauding yobs at the moment, from throwing stones at trains, to arson and vandalism. I know the police can't be everywhere, but more monitoring, using CCTV and the like might help. And the good folks can help by reporting the obvious suspicious behaviour to the police using the phone number 101. The more info they get, the more likely these idiots will be clamped down on. And the parents of these morons are either oblivious to it, or don't give a damn themselves - either way they need educating!

Council need locking up for fraud if they are making out a small childs metal slide costs £3500. No wonder they don't have any money !
