A BARNSLEY charity has been given £1,000 worth of outdoor furniture to mark the opening of a new delivery hub.

Dunelm has made the donation to Age UK Barnsley to mark the opening of the retailer’s new Barnsley-based Home Delivery Hub.

Following the launch of Dunelm’s new three-year partnership with Age UK earlier this year, the furniture was donated to transform Age UK Barnsley’s outdoor space and turn it into a comfy, welcoming meeting space for older members of the community to come together.

Items within the donation includde a large patio table, chairs, cushions, planters and ornaments – all of which will now complete the exciting transformation of the centre’s newly refurbished patio.

The donation comes at a pivotal time for the charity ahead of a busy summer of upcoming social events that will be hosted at the centre.

Paul Sullivan, Head of Circular Communities at Dunelm said: “The team at Age UK Barnsley play a pivotal role in the local community and we’re proud to be able to support what they do. Our national partnership with Age UK is designed to help reduce loneliness and create communities that feel like home for older people, and we hope the comfortable space that we’ve helped to build will be a small but important part of that.”

Tricia Watters, Acting CEO of Age UK Barnsley added: “We’d like to share a huge thank you to Dunelm for the generous donation to Age UK Barnsley! Together, we're making a real difference in our community. The donation will help to transform our Elizabeth Activity and Care Centre's outdoor area, creating a vibrant space for our members to enjoy. Their support means the world to us.”

Dunelm’s new Home Delivery Hub opened this week after relocating to a larger site in Gateway 36 to accommodate increased order volume and deliveries.
