Stagecoach Drivers Confirm Next Strike Action

STAGECOACH bus drivers have announced another wave of strikes – to take place on one of Barnsley’s busiest weekends.

The union Unite has announced it is planning to take strike action on December 16 and 17, the traditional Christmas party weekend and Mad Friday.

More than 100 supervisors and managers from the company have agreed to come in and drive the routes which, it says, will leave most of them unaffected between 7am and 6pm.

All school services will also operate as normal on Friday December 16. A special £1 flat single fare for adults will apply on these dates.

We are awaiting a breakdown of bus services on offer on Mad Friday for party-goers.

Looks like strikes might turn to riots on mad Friday, didn’t plan that one right good lol

  • You got my full support

Good on them, it’s about time stagecoach sorted this out. Just
remember the MD is not even from Barnsley, he lives in a nice big house, and a
bonus every year that is more than people get in a life time. He lies to the
press about what was on offer; the scabs also got cash in hand as well as the day’s
wage. I know that lot will say, at least they have a job, but you just think,
would you be treated like **** and not do anything about it. Just remember,
Barnsley we should support the bus drivers, Barnsley is a great community, do
not just think I am ok, and stuff them. I am a member of the public and will be
down with my family to show support, as I did when the council was out on
strike. Just remember Barnsley lets show our community spirit, I love Barnsley
and proud of where I come from…and SHOULD NOT BE TREATED 2ND CLASS!

  • Anon

I have also emailed a complaint to the Stagecoach (Yorkshire) email address. Disgraceful some of the comments I’m reading on Facebook. You’re even putting the people off who are supporting you!

  • Big_dave_batley

I fully support the strikers. This company has history and the founder is more loathsome than a cross between Eric Pickles and Jeremy Clarkson.I too will be affected by the strikes.I will use the train and then walk to my destination.I will not get on a bus driven by scabs.Dave B ,in Wombwell

The Owner of Stagecoach described British northerners as ,beer swilling, chip eating ,council house dwelling old labour voting masses. He is known for an agressive attitude to his business dealings.By 1995 Stagecoach had been investigated by the office of fair trading. The SNP at their annual conference in 2006 voted to Re regulate the buses in Scotland. In early 2007 Brian Souter {the owner of stagecoach} Gave the SNP 500,000 pounds. In the SNP election manifesto of the same year ,the proposal to re regulate the buses had been dropped.Alex Salmond said there was no connection between the two.The company reflects the owner.Thats why i support the strikers.

  • freedom_seeker

thats a bit harsh mate, they are striking for their own benefit for a decent pay that reflects the hassles of the job…as for people gettin home from work late on in hte day, thats not the drivers faults, thats down the management for offering a very insulting offer most people ouwld refuse…if you can, id see about using another company if possible

  • freedom_seeker

i think you’ll find, if they strike on fri 16th Dec, that will be strike #5, nice to see people paying attention

  • freedom_seeker

no riots have been planned, but to have the strike on that day was planned. to prove to the company that the strikes HAVE affected them…busiest, and last weekend before xmas & no bus after 6pm. not that they will admit it’ll hurt them

  • Craig

You think striking on mad Friday in Barnsley will not draw attention from yobs? The drivers will get bombarded with beer bottles and all sorts.

  • Thisismyopinion

what a load of twoddle, if you feel like that about this company then dont bother using the bus full stop you moron and use your feet, you are the first tocomplain when the bus has gone early and there the ones you are sticking up for

  • Thisismyopinion

too true the should be thankful they have a job and if they dont like it they could always go to Tates

  • Thisismyopinion

so you think 5.5% is a poor offer then eh try not having a pay offer, or are you a well paid but hang on a minute you must be an x miner

  • Thisismyopinion

what the hell has it got to do with where the manager comes from moron and what does it matter what he gets paid the drivers have been offered 5.5% and thats a damm sight more than most in this country, its people like you that are fetching this country down. and how are you going to get down there to show your support, hang on on the bloody bus that you are whining about. you will also like to know that in all the jobs in Barnsley i think you will find that Stagecoach are paying among the highest wages to it general staff so put that in your pipe and smoke it, oh forgot you must be on roll ups but if you are on normal fags then you must be on benifits,

  • Katy

The Owner of Stagecoach described British northerners as ,beer
swilling, chip eating ,council house dwelling old labour voting masses ….

Yep, that sounds like the whole population of Barnsley – couldn’t have said it better myself.

  • Thisismyopinion

no bus after 6 but the taxis will be busy, and they planned for friday so most of them can go out themselves and if i am not wrong i do believe the drivers have their xmas party on friday, lets see some of them get home

  • STAGECOACH INSIDER

THE STRIKE MAY YET BE CALLED OFF………

DRIVERS ARE GOING TO A BALLOT ON WEDNESDAY ………..

  • Guestdriver

party saturday night. the strikers are all jazzed about striking so they dont have to swap a shift or  miss it. turds. the ones that are bad mouthing passengers, getting fines for their conduct and behaving like rabid ferrets at the end of the station on pickets need sorting out by the company. the cctv from all the buses, as well as the ones from the staiton and company garage will be watched over n over to catch the idiots. they should know this but it looks like they dont care.

  • Big_dave_batley

Firstly i am not a moron.I use first buses for 90% of my journeys.I have made complaints on 2 occasions about buses leaving early this was on the same service. On both occasions it was the last bus of the day leaving pensioners behind .I reported them to SYPTE.The buses were run by Veolia who have since lost the franchise for the route.I do use my feet i have walked from the interchange to BDGH and back this afternoon and i will do the same tomorrow and the day after. Is it because i want to save money,no i have a free national travel pass.If you wihh to pass judgement on my comments and myself could you please use measured and constructive arguments.twoddle and moron say nothing about the subject in hand.Though they do say a lot about the contributer who used them.

  • Thisismyopinion

ok refer to my previous post

  • Thisismyopinion

and to say you a pensioner at that

  • GuestyMcGuest

well I’ve said this before, support the strike but a lot of the drivers don’t help themselves do they? This is probably the reason they have such a bad rep, I no longer use the bus thank god but my lasting memory of bus drivers in barnsley wasn’t a good one.

  • GuestyMcGuest

Don’t compare this to the miners it’s completely different, miners weren’t striking for a payrise, infact no-one else is.

  • Thisismyopinion

yeah its off the Mr R*shf***h has a lot to answer for

  • Thisismyopinion

so how does this strike get resolved?, well the drivers want £10.00 an hour same as Arriva which they always pick the companys which pay the most not like the pittence that Tates get, they state that the group is making a profit so they can afford it, well look at T Cook Travel closing all the shops thats not making a profit or just above, so is Stagecoach Yorkshire making a profit? thats what the drivers should be looking at. yes they may get some small extra after striking for this long but at what cost to the services and jobs, they should have taken the best offer first, and freedom seeker go and seek somewhere else where it might make a difference like s???? Af???

  • Not again…..im bored!

It seems some people feel that driving a bus is easy, I have been in the industry over 10 years and know it is far from easy for the drivers.
Sympathy with the drivers is there but is minimal, as they should have worked out from 2 years ago that they would not get anywhere with this, and can strike once a week for the next 12 months and the 100ish managers/inspectors will turn up every time.  It seems to me that the only people loosing here are the people on strike and the people affected by the 1800 finish on the buses.
My god from what i saw, they could not even be arsed striking!…….1300ish each day and they were off home! (is this the same as these guys work ethic)?
If you are going to strike then strike dont be half arsed about it and go home at 1 o’clock!
A pay rise in this climate is better than no pay rise at all.  They all seem to be sheep following someone with a chip on his sholder!
4 days pay lost already….5 days for the two who got £80 public order fixed penalty!
What happened to the strike on 23rd and 24th? Ho thats right you would loose 4 days pay and not just the two!

  • man with the facts

well im sorry to inform you but you have got your facts wrong .the drivers are only asking for £9 a hour and the back pay that they earnt. but because mangement have dragged there feet hoping that they will back down because its xmas.so before u make your statement get your facts rite thank u……….

  • Aprillasy1

yes get the other happy drivers back on buses.  better than usual drivers

  • Thisismyopinion

thought you had the facts, you turned done £9.05 and has one of you drivers has already stated on here that the back pay was only about £60 then it dint matter and you are getting £30 quid a day from the union for striking so those who are striking on their day of are n front. facts the only fact is you can not bebothered and think everyone has to pay for the state your in, and has its already been said umpteen times you should be lucky to get any rise at all. and has it is snowing i guess this week you lot will be gone by 10 and the only reason why there is no one here after 1 is that no one likes to work afters if the dont need to do it, if you want support you should be there all day. i read that some drivers went to shafton at 3.30 to stop them taking out buses what an idiot, its shut and thay could not stop them taking them out at barnsley anyway. JUST BITE YOUR BOTTOM LIT AND WALK BACK IN WITH YOUR HEADS HELD HIGH and oh before i forget i heard a driver on the 218 telling someone else that their back pay was 200+

  • Janetmgf

the stagecoach drivers do right, your lowest payed drivers in yorkshire, the amount of abuse you get, they inconsiderate kids to and from school screaming swearing messing about, thats not to mention doing your shift having to continuously listen to squeeking brakes, rattling doors, and anyother mechanical noises. i definately could NOT do your job itd drive me nuts … stick to your guns its not like your asking for much

  • Not again…..I’m bored!

So let me get this right, what you are saying here is the company should pay its staff more money than has been offered, because the parents of barnsley and the surrounding area are poor at bringing their children up? Okay if vehicles have issues then they need to be fixed but I would have thought if the drivers were doing their paperwork then the problems would be fixed. If problems are not fixed they have the union to turn to. But hold on this is a union that turned down a pay deal of over 5%!
They say its not all about the money, its about conditions too.
to make conditions better put a smile on your faces and say good morning/afternoon to your passengers, and watch peoples complaints turn into good comments.
I know the company spends time and money putting all its drivers through customer care but I know most people would not have thought it!

  • Thisismyopinion

lowest paid drivers yet when they are on strike the spend the  afternoon in the courthouse boozing, so yes its not about money. you mention screaming kids well tell yors to behave on the bus ans stop sending them out so young on their own.rattles and squeaks unfortunately come with the job, and yoy know what if they dont like it they could always PISSOFF SOMEWHERE ELSE

  • Santa

If your not happy working in Barnsley on Barnsley wages – move to Sheffield …. but be prepared to spend £150,000 on a house instead of £90,000 for the same house in Barnsley

  • RalphDyson

100% behind them.  Next thing you know it’ll be the workhouses and cap in hand.

  • Inmyopinion

you can always tell when someone has lost the argument, they resolve to swearing

  • K13z2008

yh okay bus drivers have to put up with idiots, but what about people who want to get to work? only finking about themselves!! cant they strike through the day instead of first thing in morning when people want to get to work? not only them want paying!! they get payed more than me and they only drive a bus!! just get on with your job…. not everythings paradise!

  • Inmyopinion
