Over 100 Fines Issued To Inconsiderate Parkers

OVER 100 fines have been issued to inconsiderate parkers by a new van which automatically captures number plates.

Barnsley Council received £43,000 for the automatic number plate recognition van to record drivers who park illegally in the borough.

The van takes a photograph of the parking offence and a £70 fine is issued – a 50 per cent discount if it is paid within 21 days. The van patrols all over the borough – but focusses on streets surrounding schools during term time.

More than 100 fines have been issued since it came to Barnsley – mainly for cars parking on pedestrian crossings, on yellow zig zag lines outside schools and on primary roads where parking restrictions are in place.

Coun Roy Miller said: “We are pleased to see parents are taking it on board when it comes to parking on the yellow lines.”

    Actually agree with this!  They would make £43,000 a month if they took pics of everyone inconsiderately parking outside Walkers – the newsagents – in Hoyland!

    I think they need to get something to stop people parking in parent and child spaces, in asda there is more disabled people parking their than there is parents with children. But if i was to park in disabled spaces i would get a ticket even if it was next to a parent and child space with a disabled person parked in it.

    Agree with this and about time too, they ought to include supermarkets and multi-storey car parks in this as well. Amount of times there have been people parked across 2 spaces so that there isn’t enough space to park even a mini (old one). How they pass their drving test is beyond me!!

    Send it round the back of the town hall on Westgate for the Police cars that continually never pay and display and must be above the law as the parking control vehicles and staff just turn a blind eye to it. Justice with courage.

    They should try our streets the ones just off summerlane, parking is that bad ambulance ended up reversing back up the road coz cars had parked that badly they couldn’t get back to the main road. Happens all the time people that won’t pay for parking in town, I’m pregnant and have two disabled children an I often end up parking 4 streets away coz residents can’t get anywhere near there houses for council workers and people going shopping
