Val Rimmington retires after 52 years of service
A woman who has worked at Barnsley Hospital for 52 years is retiring.
Val Rimmington joined straight from Barnsley High School for Girls' in 1958. She has had a number of roles over the years including student radiographer, technician, and is a qualified medical photographer.
She has been the health and safety officer for Unison and did a secondment to help the Trust to shape its policies. When Agenda for Change was introduced, Val worked on behalf of the union, looking at job roles.
Val’s latest role has been as the Knowledge and Skills Framework Officer (KSF) for the trust, working in the Learning and Development team.
Val said, “I have grown up with the hospital in a way. I remember a time when we all had to call each other by our surnames, but I’ve met so many people and made lifelong friends.”
“The hospital and staff have changed so much over the years, and I’m privileged to have been with this super hospital for so long,” she added.
