We Are Barnsley has some ‘prime real estate’ on our Facebook page and we thought you might want to help us jazz it up.

We have a variety of time-line covers promoting what WAB is all about – but we thought it would be nice to give you loyal WABers the chance to be a We Are Barnsley Cover Girl or Boy!

We’re looking for artwork that you think shows what WAB is all about – and what WAB means to you.

There are a few rules:

* it has to be 850×315 pixels in size

* It can’t have any web address details or contact details on it (sadly!)

We’d love to see what you come up with – and there might even be some ‘I Talk Tarn’ merchandise in it for our favourites.

To submit your cover photos, send them to nicky@wearebarnsley.com

HEALTH experts are asking the government to put a 20 per cent ‘fat tax’ on soft drinks and unhealthy food in a bid to cut obesity.

Dr Oliver Mytton and Dr Mike Rayner of the Department of Public Health at Oxford have told the government that an extra 20 per cent whacked on to soft drinks could lead to a drop in obesity-related diseases.

Research published in the British Journal of Nutrition said a ten per cent ‘fat tax’ would reduce sales of sugary drinks and encourage consumers to swap to healthier alternatives.

What do you think? Would a ‘fat tax’ work? Or should the campaigners leave well alone? Have your say by commenting in the box below.

We have noticed over the last few weeks that our Facebook wall is getting lots and lots of posts regarding people searching for work – or businesses advertising for staff.

While we appreciate that it is a difficult climate, it is sometimes frustrating for people to scroll through the wall and see the same posts over and over again.

Due to the fast-changing nature of our Facebook page we thought it would be useful to have a permanent page on WAB where people can come to post about jobs.

If you put your correct email address in when you comment (in the bit where it asks you not the comment box) you will be notified when someone else posts.

We will share this regularly on our page and encourage users to keep checking and sharing this thread too.

A few guidelines for businesses:

* Start the post with VACANCY in block capitals

* We Are Barnsley is a business too and we are supported by advertising revenue. Please do not use this thread to promote your business – that would make us sad.

* The aim of this thread is to make people aware of local jobs – to make it easy to read we ask people post brief details and recommend that 50 words or less should be used.

* We’d appreciate it if you could make it simple and use the following format in your posts.

* Type Of Job
* Location
* Hours
* Email contact only

We are creating this page to try to help people and – in doing so – are going on faith. If this gets abused I’m afraid we shall have to remove it.

We Are Barnsley’s staff put many voluntary hours into running our website and Facebook page and we respect that businesses respect that – this is not a thread where you can get some cheap free publicity, merely to let people know if you have seen any jobs about.

Thanks for your understanding and good luck with the job search.

Matt had told Karen that the reason they were waiting in the wings of the stage was because they’d won a competition.

Once she’d said ‘yes’ the couple danced on stage as the crowd sang the song to them. AMAZING STORY!

Should the UK decide it is time to abolish the 1p coin? Canada has already done so – so has Australia and America is considering doing away with the ‘cent’ (penny equivalent).

So should the UK do the same and get rid of the brown soap?

National research says a quarter of people would say yes to ditching the copper coin which came in 41 years ago – with many saying they have copper collection jars to save them in. About a third of young people admit to throwing their small change away.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) says it thinks the penny might have had its day

Whether the coin stays or goes will be the ultimate decision of the treasury – who say they will consider the opinion of the general public.

So what do you think? Should the penny coin be abolished? Does it serve a purpose?
