Union trying to say that Stagecoach is trying to bribe people with a £1 fare to go on buses, when in fact the TRUTH is that they charge a flat rate of £1 as the relief drivers do not know the area and instead of passengers trying to explian where they wish to go and work out the correct fare – it is made just a simple £1

Union also trying to say that the buses are running empty – well when they come INTO the interchange of cause most of them are going to be empty, try filming the buses and see how many people get off at the train station – or when they LEAVE the interchange full !!!

Union is calling drivers scabs – well a scab is quite usefull….
A scab is a hard crust that doesn’t allow in any bacteria whilst the wound is allowed to heal

Barnsley drivers moaning that Sheffield drivers get paid more (Well for a start Barnsley drivers are left over from Yorkshire Traction and were taken on at Yorkshire Traction wages, Sheffield drivers are left over from Andrews and were taken on at Andrews wages)
If you are not happy then either transfer to th Sheffield depot — Move to Sheffield where houses & rents are 50% more than Barnsley — Or just shut up and do the job you are paid to do.

After the cameras had gone Fran Postlethwaite went back to her car drove past the bus station cursing at workers, job seekers students and the elderley for using busses BUSSES of all things
when her union have organised a strike, she thought they should walk or get a taxi or drive in this Cold weather.

Union reps use the term scab for anyone working regardless of circumstance when they choose to strike, well I have a couple of words for paid union workers that spend their days hanging around picket lines whilst getting paid. Can’t decide on vultures or leaches though what do youthink?

Oh yeah Barnsley does’nt have a proud history of striking, they have a history of standing together only to be beaten down anyway. Unions – private businesses that profit from labour disputes.

People reading these comments surely have the brains to realize that those anonymous people who use pseudonyms like “The Grump”, “Inmyopinion”, and “Guest”, and appear to be over-the-top biased against the good, working class, local drivers of Barnsley, are likely to be company propagandists trying to sucker the public into a psychological war against the drivers.
 I’m also sure that many of the down to earth decent people of Barnsley are capable of supporting their own kind who are in a struggle against a powerful international company which thinks it can do what the hell it wants with our people.

No Im not I’m the son of a miner grew up during the miners strike I’ve lived in Barnsley all my life and will comment on the issues that affect Barnsley on a public forum if I wish. I don’t work for stagecoach either nor would I given the choice.

My opinion is clearly against the union and not the drivers, and also the audacity that people are expected to forgo public transport over a dispute that neither concerns or interests them.

Buster however seems to be spending an awful lot of time replying to almost any negative post against the strike, which makes me think he is probably posting on behalf of the union, espectially as he tries to give the impression of being an extremely intelligent, informed and erudite socialist. Hardly the same as the comments that were posted earlier on WAB in the dispute from some the Bus Drivers. 

He is none of the above, there is no reply to my previous post on the private business nature of unions these days only a comment showing his true colours on my comments on the miners strike “somebody hand me the tissues”.  That’s going to get all the ex miners on your side isn’t it?

Oh really where does the 10 – 15 quid a month go then? Do union workers work for the warm feeling in their tummies that they get for calling people between a rock and a rock scabs?

Twist and deceive? I’m a third party observer who yet again sees the crappy nature of the majority of unions, who themselves are guilty of using propaganda at every opprotuinity to try to sway people to their cause.  I mean their deluded themselves the speakers in th above video show that. They’ll stand side by side with the workers whilst the cameras are there and lie about the actual figures on the picket line. They knee jerk the strikes in and, will eventually make the drivers settle for less than they promised they would get them. They will probably put membership up next year (due to the evil corporations squeezing them) and write some rose tinted view of their astounding victory through rose tinted glasses for the socialist worker online.

People have asked for an official statement from both the drivers and the union on this very site time and again. I even asked Nicky the journalist personally to get a statement on one of these forums, so that third party people (like me) could get both sides of the dispute and make their own minds up.

Her reply was that she had tried and no one would, so what does that look like to people trying to form an opinion.

The absolute Truth about my interest in all this is that I am a bus driver, in the union, that is on strike with his workmates in a dispute with Stagecoach.

Why would people jump up to support any old strike when we are still living with results the biggest labour dispute of recent times, of which striking had very little impact on the outcomes? She’s a buffoon, and yet again is asking people not to use busses :- people rely on them, schools, hospital appointments, work, college, job club, all these are destinations on strike days, what are they supposed to do? No doubt she is also earning a wage whilst on the picket line, the drivers aren’t.

It’s me whose laughing now, do you actually compare modern trade unions to the tolpuddle martyrs? As far as my limited knowedge goes, they were workers (not private union secretaries) that were protesting against wage cuts, I don’t think they charged any membership fee and certainly didn’t ship in cameras and union reps to bolster support.

I’m not actually against the trade unions in principal just the fact that today they are more like a private industry than the powerhouses they used to be, hence the ebb in memberships in recent years. They are also pretty toothless these days.

Buses are kept running on important routes like schools, hospitals and wherever else is classed as a priority route using supervisory staff, managers, and outside labour.

No, it is not the same today as in the days of the Tolpuddle Martyrs. Metamorphosis has taken place. The original situations have evolved.

There are three factors at work as far as I can see.
Workers needing a way to survive from birth to death.
Businesses wanting to make money, commerce, trade.
Lawmakers trying to find a fair balance.

If the correct balance is found, then everything can run along ticket y-boo, like a well tuned car.
The problems occur when any imbalance comes into the equation.

In the days of the Tolpuddle Martyrs the balance was heavily on the side of the business people, and the workers got a raw deal.
Hence, the creation of a union of workers to protect themselves.
Over a period of time, the pendulum swung to the other side.
In modern times, the balance was distinctly and heavily on the side of the unions, the problems peaking in the early 1970s with such infamous characters as “Red Ken” popping up and putting a spanner in the works, bringing places like British-Leyland to a standstill.
This in turn caused a backlash from both the business world and the Home Office who were concerned about national security.
The result was a business and Intelligence led revolution to take back the country, with Maggie Thatcher at the helm, all with a very nasty streak of spite involved.

The problem today is that things may have gone too far. The baby may have been thrown out with the bathwater, meaning that the British spirit, which put us on top of the world in the 1960s with the 1966 world cup, pop culture, fashion culture, and even Euro-vision winners, etc., that spirit now seems to be broken. We seem to be a nation of zombies enslaved to serve the mechanics of the economy.
We are back to square one but, in a more subtle and insidious form of slavery.

I, personally, do not think Humans were born to serve money or someone else’s  ego. Money is a tool for us to use, not a god.
To me, quality of life and freedom are important. If someone tries to make me bow down and worship a false god, whether it be an economical system, their particular philosophy of life, or simply their overlarge ego, then I will rebel against that.

This strike at Stagecoach, in my opinion, is a huge amount of dissatisfaction, at being treated like a mindless zombie workforce,  being pushed too far by egotistical, ambitious, overlords squeezing out every last drop of value in  the pursuit of god knows what. All this is manifesting itself, or, rationalizing itself, as a strike for more pay which you see, today.

The unions, well, however overpaid their executives may be, if they are the only people we’ve got to help us then that’s the way it is.

I definitely know that many drivers feel sorry for the innocent people caught up in this and we were hoping to avoid such inconvenience to them. The company management could have avoided this action by honest, humane discussions instead of resorting to take-it-or-lose-it preplanned strategies. In fact they have outsmarted themselves by taking to these strategies too early and digging themselves into a hole. They have completely lost the human touch and rely too much on systems and strategies. This kind of unfeeling, cold -blooded attitude over a period of time has triggered the current response from the drivers who have their self-respect to defend. Many feel they have been walked all over too much and for too long, just like some of you who now feel like helpless victims and feel you are not being respected properly. This is big business for you. Cold, hard, and systematic usury. The ball is in the company’s court. Can they find their Human side or not?

The news is that Stagecoach improved their offer, just a bit of polishing up and ironing out of wrinkles that the drivers weren’t happy about. A lump sum in lieu of back pay, plus the full £9.05 an hour, plus no strings attached.
We had a vote today, Friday 17/2/2012, and it was accepted.
The result total of those who voted at Barnsley and Rawmarsh depots was :-  251 for, and only 35 against.
The strike is over. Job done. No need for me to watch on here anymore. I’m off to spend the money the union has helped us to get. Thank you Unite.
